Our Story

Adams-Maxwell was founded in 1976 by Harris Adams with a simple mission: build reliable coil winding equipment and stand behind it with real engineering support.

We're proud that Adams Maxwell coils are aboard NASA's Voyager 1—the most distant human-made object in existence, currently traveling through interstellar space. Launched on September 5, 1977, Voyager continues its journey with our precision components, a testament to the reliability and durability we build into every product.

What started in 1976 in a small Culver City, California shop has grown into a three-generation family business serving aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, renewable energy, and audio industries worldwide. Unlike larger manufacturers who outsource production and route support through call centers, we build every machine ourselves and provide direct access to the engineers who designed them.

After 50 years, our values haven't changed: quality craftsmanship, honest pricing, and genuine support. That's why customers who bought their first machine decades ago keep coming back—and why industry leaders from SpaceX to GE trust Adams Maxwell for their precision winding needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long has Adams Maxwell been in business?
Adams Maxwell was founded in 1976 by Harris Adams. We've been building precision coil winding machines in Moorpark, California for over 50 years, now operating as a three-generation family business with over 60 years of combined engineering experience.
Where are your machines manufactured?
All Adams Maxwell machines are designed and manufactured in our Moorpark, California facility. We maintain complete control over the manufacturing process from raw materials through final quality testing—U.S.-based manufacturing for reliability and quick turnaround.
What certifications does Adams Maxwell hold?
Our facility is ISO 9001:2015 compliant with strict quality and compliance standards (ISO/UL standards). All calibration is NIST-traceable. We can provide complete documentation packages to meet specific program requirements for aerospace, defense, and medical applications.
How do I get technical support?
When you call Adams Maxwell, you speak directly with our engineering team—not a call center. Our engineers have hands-on experience with every machine we build and can help troubleshoot issues or discuss application requirements.
What's the significance of Voyager 1?
Adams Maxwell coils are aboard NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft—the most distant human-made object in existence, currently traveling through interstellar space. Launched in 1977, Voyager's continued operation is a testament to the reliability and durability we build into every component.
What industries do you serve?
We serve aerospace and defense, automotive and transportation, medical equipment, industrial automation, renewable energy, and audio and electronics industries. Our machines handle applications from ultra-fine sensor coils (AWG 56+) to heavy-gauge power transformers (AWG 5).
